Graduate Assistant Position
The University of Hawaiʻi at Mānoa School of Architecture is pleased to announce a new Graduate Assistant (GA) position for the 2027–28 academic year, supporting a faculty-led research initiative focusing on precast and prestressed concrete as a material system for climate-responsive design and exploring how these systems shape environmental performance—including natural ventilation, daylighting, thermal comfort, and spatial character—in tropical island environments. The GA position includes a 100% tuition exemption, a stipend of 31,524 annually (2,627 monthly), and may be eligible for health plan benefits. Read more about the compensation and benefits.
The Graduate Assistant will collaborate with Assistant Professor Ho Kyung Lee on the development of this four-year research and teaching initiative. In 2027–28, the GA will support research on how precast systems shape spatial identity and environmental performance in Hawaiʻi’s tropical environment through architectural documentation, digital modeling, environmental analysis, and research visualization.
The position will also provide opportunities to engage with industry partners, students, and faculty, and to contribute to exhibitions and publications. It is particularly suited to a graduate student interested in architectural technology, building systems, material research, fabrication, environmental design, and/or design pedagogy.
If interested, please send an email to Professor Lee including cover letter, resume and portfolio to hklee2@hawaii.edu.
