Rising Tides, National Spotlight

A groundbreaking project led by Associate Professor Wendy Meguro is making waves beyond the islands. Recognized for its forward-thinking approach to climate resilience, the Waikīkī sea-level rise adaptation initiative has received a prestigious design award from the Society of American Registered Architects (SARA). The honor was presented during SARA’s annual awards ceremony in New York City in October 2024.

The project stood out for its innovative architectural solutions aimed at protecting one of Hawaiʻi’s most iconic coastlines from the impacts of rising seas. With a focus on adaptive design and sustainability, the initiative reflects UH Mānoa’s leadership in addressing climate challenges through interdisciplinary collaboration.
