This project was part of the 726 Systems course. Students were tasked with designing a small-scale net-zero home according to the guidelines of the Solar Decathlon Challenge. Through this design exercise they were able to investigate both passive and active strategies to create a sustainable home.

FloorplanThe central corridor of the structure is constructed from a shipping container, with modular attachments to create interior and exterior spaces.

Physical model highlights the polycarbonate skylights that provide the house with natural light and reduce the reliance on artificial lighting. Also highlights the sloped south facing roofs that are ideal for photovoltaic panels to create solar energy.

Section 2 - Highlights the hierarchy of spaces within the home. The most public spaces are placed nearest the entrance with the most private spaces places furthest away.
