Helen Davis Hatch, AIA, began practicing architecture at Thompson, Ventulett, Stainback & Associates (TVS) in 1973 and has had a distinguished career as an architect specializing in the design of hotels, resorts, convention centers and conference centers. She has been responsible for the design of over 20 hotels including renovations, adaptive reuses and new facilities, as well as major convention facilities.
Between 1985 and 1994, Ms. Hatch was a principal and director of hospitality design at Cooper Carry in Atlanta, and was president of her own firm. She rejoined TVS in 1994 and currently is a member of the Principals' Advisory Group and is Vice President of Client Relations. Helen is considered the ambassador of the firm's civic responsibility in designing spaces into better places, particularly in urban contexts.
After graduating from Agnes Scott College with a Bachelor of Arts degree, Hatch received her Master of Architecture from Harvard Graduate School of Design.
Ms Hatch is a Trustee of the Urban Land Institute and is a past chair of the ULI Atlanta District Council. She is currently Chair of the ULI Global Exchange Council, a District Council Counselor, and a member of the ULI Policy and Practice Committee.
Hatch's special interest in Smart Growth initiatives has resulted in her being appointed to the Advisory Group for ULI in the Community. The purpose of this group is to influence state and local policy and practice to be consistent with smart growth principles and to bring the resources of ULI close to the local level by providing strong programmatic support to state, regional and local outreach efforts.
Hatch was appointed by Mayor Shirley Franklin to chair the Mayor's Walkable Atlanta Task Force which completed its charge to develop a vision and a comprehensive set of policy recommendations and implementable strategies to make Atlanta a more walkable city. She was recently appointed to the Board of the Beltline Partnership which is leading the effort to take portions of a largely dormant railroad loop within the City of Atlanta and develop an integrated network of urban greenspace around which Atlanta will grow for decades to come.
Hatch is a member of the American Institute of Architects, CoreNet, and CREW, and a graduate of Leadership Atlanta.
She has served on the Diversity Committee of AIA, is president-elect of Georgia AIA and is a member of the Alumni Council for Harvard Graduate School of Design, the Advisory Council for the Savannah College of Art and Design, and has served on the Auburn University College of Architecture Advisory Council. Hatch is on the Steering Committee of the Metro Atlanta Chamber of Commerce and serves on their Environmental Committee.
