Experience

Brian Takahashi joined Architects Hawaii Ltd. (AHL) in 2004 as a Project Director with more than 26 years of experience in architecture, planning and design. His extensive experience with private and public sector clients has been instrumental in shaping high client satisfaction with projects locally and internationally. Prior to joining AHL, Brian was a principal with another firm for 16 years. His projects during his career have spanned a wide range including: urban mixed-use, office, residential, educational, healthcare, industrial, restaurants and retail, institutional facility planning and design, and work for the U.S. Armed Forces. Several projects have received national recognition awards and more than a dozen local design awards.

He is a subject in Who’s Who Among Hawaii’s Top Professionals and Who’s Who in the West, and is a recipient of a Certificate of Merit in the Dictionary of International Biography. He has served as a member of the AIA/Honolulu Chapter Board for Urban Design, chair of the Educational Committee, and Director of the Chapter. He is a former treasurer of the American Planning Association.

Brian has been an AIA member since 1986 and an associate member for several years prior. He also is a member of the Kaka‘ako Improvement Association, Abe Lee Toastmaster Club and the University of Hawai‘i Alumni Association, and serves as a volunteer teacher in Karate at the Nu’uanu YMCA.

Based in Honolulu, Architects Hawaii (AHL) is one of the largest architectural firms in Hawai‘i and the Pacific Region. AHL’s staff of more than 95 includes 31 registered architects.

 

Our firm has developed a reputation for its ability to work on fast track, complex projects of all types including high security projects such the as: the Kapolei Judiciary Complex, Kapolei Regional Police Station, and the Hawaii Regional Security Operations Center, Naval Computer and Telecommunications Area Master Station Pacific on O‘ahu; as well as the Kaua‘i Main Police Station/Emergency Operations Center/Office of the Prosecuting Attorney in Līhu‘e; and the University of Hawai‘i John A. Burns School of Medicine on O‘ahu.

 

AHL’s Hawai‘i landmark buildings include the Hawai‘i State Capitol and the Prince Kuhio Federal Building, as well as other major office buildings in downtown Honolulu such as the American Savings Bank Tower at Bishop Square, the Pacific Guardian Center, and the Ke‘elikolani State Office Building, and the Waialae Building in Kaimuki.

 

The Waikiki Landmark, at the entrance to Waikiki, is now joined by Lanikea at Waikiki, and in 2007 The Watermark Waikiki will be added to AHL’s list of completed projects. Another AHL high-rise scheduled for completion in 2007 is the Moana Pacific in Kaka‘ako, and continuing our Kaka‘ako tradition Moana Vista is scheduled for completion in 2009.

 

Architects Hawaii also has been working with Marriott Vacations Club International on the Marriott Ko Olina providing master planning and architectural services for its 31.5-acre timeshare development that includes retail shops, restaurants, recreational areas and a health club.

 

New educational facilities designed by AHL include Maui Lani Elementary School in Kahului on Maui, and Ocean Pointe Elementary in Kapolei on O‘ahu.

 

In Japan AHL has been working with Kameda Medical Center for more than 20 years, and recently completed the K Tower in Kamogawa, Chiba, Japan, which is the fifth and final phase of the master plan. AHL is now working on a master plan for the next 10 years.

 

In addition to those mentioned above, over our 60 years in business we have provided architectural services for projects in all sectors including: office/commercial, retail, hospitality, residential, healthcare, industrial and projects for the U.S. Armed Forces.
