Born in New South Wales, Australia in 1945, Gregory Burgess received First Class Honors in Architecture at Melbourne University. He owned a private practice, Gregory Burgess Architect, from 1972-82, and has been Director of Gregory Burgess Pty Ltd. Architects from 1983. He is a recipient of numerous awards including the Royal Australian Institute of Architects Sir Zelman Cowan Award for Public Buildings and the Commonwealth Association of Architects, the 1997 Robert Mathews Award for the most innovative contribution to architecture in the Commonwealth and the 1998 Kenneth F. Brown Asia-Pacific Culture and Architectural Design Award for outstanding examples of contemporary architecture that reflects and enhances the Asia-Pacific context. He has worked on private and public housing, community, cultural, educational, health, religious and commercial projects, urban design and exhibition design. A tutor and guest lecturer at various institutions within Australia and overseas, Burgessą work has been published widely in books and magazines in Australia, Japan, United Kingdom, France, Germany, Italy, America and Scandinavia.
