Under the UH Undergraduate Research Opportunities Program, BEnvD students Kate Cousins and Sara Salaparuta were awarded $6,500 to design and build a full-scale prototype easy-assembly shade canopy for Honolulu sidewalks. Professor Kevin Nute served as their faculty mentor, and the local shade manufacturer Tropical j’s was a primary collaborator.
