Shen Gallery Open House

The School of Architecture recently welcomed the UH Mānoa community and public to a dynamic open house at the Haigo and Irene Shen Gallery, centered on the timely theme of EMERGENCY. The collaborative event, led by Associate Professor Bundit Kanisthakhon, brought together the ARCH 102 design studio and the UH Mānoa Dance Program to explore how creative practices—spanning design, art, and movement—can help us respond to unexpected crises and build resilience together.

At the core of the event was a structure, built from locally sourced materials, as a collaboration between gallery crews, architecture alumni, and dance students.

The evening performance blended architectural experimentation with interpretive dance, illustrating how temporary structures and embodied movement can express powerful stories of adaptation and response. The event offered a unique and inspiring opportunity to reflect on how the arts and architecture can engage with the urgencies of our time.
