Preserving Lāhainā’s Architectural Heritage

The ARCH 490: Rebuilding Lāhainā in Mixed Reality course has provided students with a better understanding of the historical heritage in Lāhainā with the use of cutting-edge technology.  Through virtual 3D modeling and artificial intelligence (AI), students have recreated and restored historical structures destroyed by the devastating 2023 Maui wildfires, as well as digitally preserving existing historical sites.  Today’s technology is broadening the experiences of space and the environment. It is expanding to new possibilities for preserving architectural history, reconstructing buildings and developing new designs.
