On the 60th anniversary of the USS Arizona Memorial, architect Alfred Preis, designer of the memorial, will be honored. On May 30, an exhibit will be premiered featuring Preis’ Arizona Memorial design process and his other works.
“It’s not only the celebration of the architectural achievement and the achievement of the memorial itself, but also, simply as we’re looking at here, the continued preservation of his architecture,” said Laura McGuire, architectural history assistant professor.
Earlier this year in January, Professors Axel Schmitzberger (Cal Poly Pomona) and Laura McGuire showcased an exhibition of Alfred Preis in Hawaiʻi: Vienna Émigré, Architect, and Advocate at Honolulu Hale.
