David Miller, a longstanding friend of the school and a wonderful colleague and collaborator passed away on April 10. Born in Brooklyn, New York, David attended Carnegie-Mellon, where he received a BArch in 1964, and Harvard Graduate School of Design, where he was awarded a MArch in 1965. David came to Hawaii in 1971, joining the firm of Lemmon, Freeth, Haines, Jones, and Farrell, later Architects Hawaiʻi. He became a principal of the firm in 1975 and CEO in 2000, serving as chairman of the board from 2010 to 2021.
David was a valued member of our Dean’s Advisory Council and also was an outside reviewer in the effort to move our BEnvD from probationary to permanent status. He always took a great interest in everything that went on with the school and was never too busy to offer advice and support. He will be much missed.
