Prof. Hyoung-June Park appeared live on the ThinkTech Hawaiʻi program on Sep 28, 2021, with Jay Fidell, host of Community Matters, discussing his work in affordable housing in Hawaiʻi. This segment of How Can the Architects Help may be viewed on https://thinktechhawaii.com/affordable-housing-in-hawaii-community-matters/.
Prof. Park shared his thoughts on Affordable Housing in Hawaiʻi, why it has become a crisis, and what we can do about it. He explained “How Can Computational Design in Architecture Help the Architects Go Further” with the examples of 1) morphological transformation with data interpolation, 2) parametric variations + optimization, and 3) Cost Driven Optimization. His research project funded by Samkoo Hawaiʻi, the developer of Kapiolani Residence, demonstrates the successful collaboration between academia and business sector to make a purposeful contribution for our society. The future of Artificial Intelligence in architecture was also introduced as a design assistant not as a tool. A “master builder” concept was recommended as a role model for future architectural planners and designers.
