Five DArch candidates and nine BEnvD students will participate in the competition as one facet of their ARCH 690 and ARCH 490 Furniture Design elective course. The work will be on display as a “show within a show” during the 2021 Hawaiʻi’s Woodshow, November 20th – December 5th. The exhibition will be open to the public and take place at Hawaiʻi Opera Plaza, 848 S. Beretania St.
In last year’s competition, architecture students Beau Nakamori, Sarah Hyun and Keola Annino earned numerous honors, including “Spirit of the Show Award” and “Most Promising Young Artist”. A video of the 2020 Innovation + Imagination Student Challenge features several student-participants with their designs.
The 2021 Hawaiʻi’s WoodshowTM, Na La‘au o Hawai‘i will be the Hawai‘i Forest Industry Association’s (HFIA) 29th annual juried woodworking exhibition. This competition encourages an appreciation for the participating artists and the materials they use. It promotes the positive role forests play in our economy and ecology.
