Alicia Kutkut Arroyo received her DArch degree in May 2018.  Her dissertation rethinks refugee camp’s structure from being temporary to a more permanent alternative.  She proposes five design solutions for the Al Zaatari refugee camp in Jordan, suggesting that implementing her design strategies as a way to help refugees become an active part of society for a better and brighter future.  Professor Pu Miao chaired her dissertation committee.  This project received nominations for the Hawaii Architecture Foundation (HAF) award and for the ARCC King Student Medal For Excellence.

Alicia’s doctoral project demonstrates that architectural research can fulfill one’s social responsibility while achieving academic excellence.  This publication is available on Amazon.
