IUCN World Conservation Congress-Living Shorelines Workshop

The UH School of Architecture and UH Sea Grant’s assistant professor Wendy Meguro is collaborating with nine partners to conduct a workshop on Living shorelines on Tropical Islands at the IUCN World Conservation Congress, the world’s largest conservation event. “Living Shorelines” integrate habitat restoration techniques, coastal engineering, and conservation to mitigate coastal hazards through the incorporation of natural elements.  Partners in the September 2016 workshop in Honolulu include the Hawaii Shore and Beach Preservation Association, Environmental Defense Fund, NOAA, The Nature Conservancy, Hawaii Department of Land and Natural Resources, OceanIt Laboratories, University of Massachusetts SAGE, and Global Forest Coalition.
